What is Acro Dance?

Acro dance (short for acrobatic dance) is a unique style that fuses traditional dance with tumbling and gymnastics-inspired tricks. Think beautiful choreography—plus cartwheels, backbends, aerials, walkovers, and more!

Unlike gymnastics, acro dance is performed without mats, so we emphasize technique, control, and safe progressions. It’s perfect for dancers who love to flip, fly, and stand out on stage. Learn more!

Class Details

What to Expect

Each Acro class starts with a full-body warm-up to ensure students are physically prepared and reduce the risk of injury. From there, dancers move into skill-building drills, traveling movements, and choreography practice.

Class Levels

Ages 3-8: Introduction to basic acro techniques, focusing on fundamentals, coordination, and musicality in a fun, encouraging environment.

Acro I & Acro II: Building on foundation skills with more complex combinations, introducing intermediate techniques and performance skills.

Acro III: Advanced technique development & complex choreography.

What to Wear

Proper dance attire is essential for safety and optimal movement.

  • Girls must wear a leotard (any style) with fitted shorts, leggings, or joggers
  • Boys should wear clothing that does not restrict movement
  • No crop tops please!

Mrs. Nicki has been dancing since the age of two. Today, as the director of DHP she is proud to helm the studio into its 20th year, where she is producing some the best dancers to ever come out of the state of Maine.
